How exactly this holiday came to be is unknown. But it is thought to be a marketing strategy by a Marshmallow company. The idea was that men would repay their girlfriends for Valentine's Day by getting them marshmallows. It was originally called Marshmallow Day, it was transformed to White Day. The holiday is mainly is just a Valentine's Day is with the reverse roles. The holiday is spreading to Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
