This day is used to memorialize the 228 incident. In 1928 Taiwan was violently supressed by the Kuomintang government. The 228 incident occured on February 28th, 1947 when there was an uprising against the government. Thousands had died during the uprising. The day is also looked as the beginning of the White Terror period. In 1945 maked the year when China was able to part from Kuomintang.
